Excellent win for Under-20s, but at an injury price

With a tough closing programme to come and problems with illness and injury, it looked a few weeks ago as if the Watt Under-20s might fade a bit and perhaps slip down the Development League table. Not a bit of it – on Friday evening, the lads overtook Cumbernauld Colts to go third with a well-deserved 2 – 0 win over a decent Edinburgh City side. Colts have finished their programme, so the Watt will stay ahead of them, but they could yet be caught by University of Stirling, currently in fifth position but with one game still to play – a home fixture against University of Edinburgh tomorrow evening.

The following evening (Tuesday), the Watt will conclude its fixtures with a trip to K-Park Training Academy to take on the side which has already won the championship – the trophy will be presented at the game – namely, East Kilbride. So it couldn’t come any tougher as a last match, but the Watt will travel with the confidence of a good win and a clean sheet. It will have to do without Aidan Quinn and Finn Watt, however, both players having sustained injuries in the victory at Portobello on Friday.

The Watt players and officials enjoyed their Annual Dinner last night at the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel at Haymarket. It was good to see old friends again, with Jamie Hume and Euan Cole amongst the luminaries present at the event. Congratulations to all those who won the Club’s awards for the season, which were presented at the Dinner.
