Another big weekend awaits

Yesterday’s BUCS programme was decimated by the weather, but at this stage of the season there’s never long to wait for another batch of important fixtures to come along and over the next two days, all three Watt weekend sides will be involved in matches of significance.

As usual, the Under-20s lead the way, travelling tomorrow night to Scotstoun Leisure Centre to take on BSC Glasgow. The synthetic at Scotstoun is compact and there is no provision for spectators other than to stand as close as possible to the fencing (think Saughton). The Watt couldn’t find their rhythm at this venue last season, but after Monday’s great win against Edinburgh University, the players will surely go west with plenty of confidence to add to their considerable store of determination.

On Saturday, the Firsts go to East Lothian to face Preston Athletic at the Pennypit, desperate to avoid another shambles on a tricky grass pitch like last Saturday’s. As opponents, Preston are likely to be even tougher to overcome than Peebles Rovers, so the Watt will have to show improvement. Kick-off is at 2.30.

After last Saturday’s encouraging victory over Polbeth United, the Reserves will seek to start a winning run when they visit Craigie Park for a match against Craigroyston Wanderers (kick-off 2 o’clock). If the Watt side can win this game, it will come within a point of Craigroyston, with a game fewer played.
