Snow still in charge at Riccarton

The snow has not yet released its grip on Riccarton campus, causing the postponement of all BUCS matches scheduled at Heriot-Watt today. Because of the weather, it is understood that BUCS has extended its deadline for completion of fixtures to the end of March.

We hope that the weather continues to ease and that the Under-20 fixture on Friday evening can go ahead. The Watt side is due to visit Meggetland 3G to take on Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale in a League match kicking off at 7.45. Hutchie’s last game, on the 9th of February, brought a victory over high-flying Whitehill Welfare. After a month of enforced inactivity, both sides may be a little rusty, but the Watt will want to get back into its stride as soon as possible to try to consolidate its position at the top of the table.

The only Heriot-Watt team in action this Saturday is the Reserves, who, after a demoralising defeat by Balerno Athletic last time out, face a trip to play table-topping Murieston United (kick-off 2 o’clock).

The First Team has no game this Saturday as it prepares for the unique event planned for next week, when Oriam is one of the venues on the GroundhopUK Scottish Hop. The groundhoppers will visit six venues in three days, with our game, to be played in the Indoor Arena, being the fourth, kicking off at the unusual time of at 5 o’clock on the Saturday. We expect there to be in excess of 200 visitors to add to the spectators, which should see the Arena seating pleasantly filled. Leith Athletic will be our visitors, so it will be a tough challenge, as the Watt attempts to end a run of nineteen games without a win against the men from Meadowbank.
