Good wins for top two Watt sides in men’s BUCS competitions

On a gloriously warm and sunny October day yesterday, Heriot-Watt Men’s Firsts got their season up and running with a fine 3 – 1 win over the early leaders of Division 1A, University of Stirling Second.   Two well-taken first half goals by Chris Lane put the Watt on their way, but although Stirling worked their way back into the game in the second half, Ross McKay reducing the arrears, a late goal by Ali Shrive made sure that the Watt would gather all three points.

The Men’s Seconds had a comfortable 4 – 0 victory over University of St Andrews Third in the Scottish Conference Cup, with two goals in each half, but the Men’s Fifths were unfortunate, drawing 4 – 4 with University of Abertay Third in the Conference Plate, but losing in a penalty shoot-out.  The Men’s Sixths battled away against University of Dundee Fourth, but it was too big an ask against the Division 5 side and the visitors won 3 – 0.

Tomorrow evening, the Watt Under-20s will seek to return to winning ways after the disadvantage of a double-header against the redoubtable Kelty Hearts.  The Watt lads travel to New Victoria Park to take on Newtongrange Star (kick-off 8 o’clock).
