Torrid weekend for Watt

There was a lot of frustration for Watt sides this weekend – firstly for the Under-20s, who went down 3 – 2 to Whitehill Welfare at Peffermill after twice holding the lead, then for the First Team, which ended up on the wrong side of a 6 – 0 result against Linlithgow Rose after conceding five times in the last seventeen minutes of the game.

There are further tough games waiting in the coming weekend for both sides:  the Under-20s away to Hill of Beath Hawthorn (Beath High School, Cowdenbeath – Friday, 7.45) and the First Team at home to Broxburn Athletic (John Brydson Arena – Saturday, 3 o’clock).

The bright spot in the weekend was provided by the Reserves.  Still unbeaten in LEAFA Lothian West Division, the Watt lads secured a 4 – 1 victory over Queensferry Athletic to soar up to fifth place in the thirteen-team table, with most sides below having played more games.  Goals came from Lewis Whitelaw (2), Pete Connolly and Michael Walls.  On Saturday, it’s back to cup business as the Watt side welcomes Lothian East side Waverley Athletic to Riccarton, with the winner at home in the last sixteen to either Dunbar Athletic (third in the Intermediate Division) or Lauriston Thistle (second in Lothian East with five wins out of five in the League).
