Season ends on happy notes

Sorry about the delay since the last post – your correspondent has been busy on other important business – but let’s wind up the season’s activities now.

As previously reported, the First Team finished its programme a month ago with an exciting 3 – 3 draw with Camelon Juniors in warm sunshine at the John Brydson Arena.

The Under-20s followed their superb win over Cumbernauld Colts on the 3rd of May by losing 2 – 1 away on the 10th to Dunipace in a game in which they dominated possession but were unable to convert their chances; but a week ago on Monday (the 13th) ended their programme on a winning note, defeating Whitehill Welfare 3 – 1 to rise a place to seventh in Development League Conference ‘A’.  The effect of a profusion of  narrow defeats during the season (seven by a single goal out of a total of nine) is shown by the fact that the Watt side’s goal difference is +20, whilst those of the teams which finished above them by one point (Cumbernauld Colts) and two points (Dunipace) are respectively +11 and -5.

The Reserves also finished with a positive result, a 2 – 0 away win over Balerno Athletic producing a tenth win of the season to consolidate seventh place in the LEAFA Lothian West Division table.  This is a big improvement on last season’s outcome and the Watt management will be looking for the team to kick on from there and mount a challenge near the top of the table next season.

That tidies up the news for season 2018 – 2019.  All teams have now completed their fixtures.  We wish our readers a pleasant summer and hope to see all of you at the John Brydson Arena when the new East of Scotland League season begins in late July.
